When two single celebrities are spotted together, fans immediately start wondering whether they're dating. But, of course that's not always the case. Just like with regular folks, there are plenty of non-romantic reasons why two famous people might have dinner together. Still, when Angelina Jolie and The Weeknd were spotted at the same restaurant Wednesday night, it generated a lot of speculation. Are they friends? Are they dating? Are they working together? Here's everything we know so far about the fascinating pair.

They reportedly had a lengthy dinner in Los Angeles.
On Thursday, Page Six reported that Jolie and The Weeknd (real name: Abel Tesfaye) had dinner for "hours" at the Giorgio Baldi restaurant in Los Angeles. The actor and singer were photographed by paparazzi leaving the restaurant separately.
The Weeknd once referenced Jolie in a song.
As a Twitter user pointed out in response to the report, the Canadian singer has a lyric about the actor in one of his songs. In "Party Monster" from his 2016 album Starboy, he sings the line, "Angelina, lips like Angelina."
The dinner may have been work-related.
A source hinted to Page Six that the dinner wasn't romantic, but had to do with The Weeknd's burgeoning acting career. "They're clearly not trying to hide [the dinner date]," a source said to be close to The Weeknd told the outlet. "He's definitely focused on getting to the movie business. He has the new HBO series he's starring in."
As reported by Variety, The Weeknd developing a series with HBO called The Idol that he would star in and co-write. The series is about a pop singer, who starts dating a Los Angeles club owner who is also the leader of a cult.

The Weeknd already has a little acting experience.
The Weeknd had a role as a version of himself in the 2019 Adam Sandler movie Uncut Gems. The film is set in 2010, when The Weeknd was still an up-and-coming artist, and he appears in some party scenes. As for writing, The Weeknd penned a 2020 episode of the animated series American Dad and also voiced a cartoon version of himself on the show
They could have bonded over something else they have in common.
While Jolie is obviously a great person to talk to if The Weeknd is looking to learn more about Hollywood, E! News notes that there is another topic they could have bonded over, as well. The Weeknd and Jolie both have strong connections to Ethiopia. The 31-year-old singer's parents are both from Ethiopia, and Jolie's 16-year-old daughter Zahara Jolie-Pitt was born in the country. E! News also notes that The Weeknd recently donated $1 million to aid those affected during the current government conflict in Ethiopia.
But… what if they are dating?
Based on the information we have about the dinner so far, there isn't any concrete evidence that Jolie and The Weeknd are dating, but they are both single right now. Jolie's most recent public relationship was with her ex-husband Brad Pitt. The former couple split in 2016. The Weeknd had an on-and-off relationship with model Bella Hadid for several years, and had previously dated Selena Gomez.
Best Life reached out to reps for Jolie and The Weeknd regarding their dinner, but have not yet received a response.
